Basmati, Jasmine, Caroline, Parboiled Rice 🌿

This very simple rice recipe will make everyone able to cook it perfectly in a pot. Today I’m cooking 4 types of rice to show you the perfect timing to cook each one of them and its texture. If you aren’t sure which rice goes with what this is video is for you.

Each rice serves 2 to 3

Ingredients

  • 1cup of Rice (200g)

  • 1 and ½ cup of Water

  1. Jasmine Rice (Cooking time 12 to 14minutes)

  2. Jasmine rice is the Thai native rice. It has a long grain, it’s very aromatic, creamy and has a bit sticky texture. It’s delicious to eat with stir fry or saucy, salt and spicy side dishes. We can also make awesome fried rice with it!

  3. Caroline Rice (Cooking time 12 to 14 minutes)

  4. Caroline rice is the Portuguese native rice which has short grains. This is a sticky, creamy and saucy type of rice which is good to make creamy, wet and saucy rice dishes for example – Rice Pudding, Tomato with rice and Seafood rice etc. (Check my Portuguese seafood rice).

  5. Basmati Rice (Cooking time 8 to 10 minutes)

  6. Basmati Rice is the Indian Origin rice, we consume it a lot in Nepal as well. This Rice has long grains, it’s thin and it’s very aromatic. It takes a short time to cook. We cook plain to eat with spicy, saucy, salty curries. We also make fried rice Pilau, Biryani and many more dishes.

  7. How to cook:

  8. Same way for cooking 3 types of rice above,

  9. Rinse the rice in cold water and scrub it with your hand, rinse and drain until the drained water seems almost clear, after that drain all water and let it sit for a few minutes.

  10. Put water into the pot then put it on the gas to over medium to boil.

  11. When water boils lets add the rice and stir it because the shock between the cold rice and boiling water can make it stick on the bottom of the pot.

  12. Bring it to a boil then put the lid on and reduce the heat to the low, cook it according to the time above and don’t open the lid before this time.

  13. After take the lid off and check if the rice is cooked already, it should be perfect.

  14. Turn off the gas and use the fork to fluff it, you can serve it right away. Enjoy!

  15. Parboiled Rice (Cooking time 14 to 16 minutes)

  16. Parboiled rice has a bit dried texture and its translusive, it is known as a steamed rice as well and its very healthy to eat. Great to cook in the Oven with other ingredients for example – Rice with duck.

  17. How to cook:

  18. Rinse the rice in cold water and scrub it with your hand, rinse and drain until the drained water seems almost clear, after that add some water and let it sit to soak it for 20 minutes.

  19. Put 1 and ½ cup of water and soaked rice into the pot then put it on the gas to over medium to boil.

  20. When it boils then stir it because it can stick on the bottom of the pot then put the lid on and reduce the heat to the low, cook it according to the time above and don’t open the lid before this time.

  21. After take the lid off and check if the rice is cooked already, it should be perfect.

  22. Turn off the gas and use the fork to fluff it, you can serve it right away. Enjoy!
